The last month and a half have been emotional and trying for all of us, but I continue to be inspired by the goodness in people and the genuine acts of kindness, large and small, that I see every day. It is in that spirit that I am sharing the “Celebrating the Seniors” blog series. My heart breaks for them as they navigate these uncharted waters, missing out on so many things they’ve looked forward to for the past four years. This small gesture of featuring them on my blog is the least I can do to bring some happiness their way.
Claire is our next featured senior. She and her family came to me last summer all the way from Germany! Her grandparents still live in Oconomowoc, where her dad grew up, and her parents wanted to give her the tradition of senior pictures, although this is not a tradition in Germany. Claire is currently attending Frankfurt International School. When I asked her what she thought when the quarantine was announced she said,
“I was quite disappointed because I had many upcoming events and trips that had to be cancelled or modified.”
She added, “Putting it into perspective, the quarantine is important in these unprecedented times to ensure everyone around the world stays safe and healthy.” Well said!
Claire gave some perspective about what life has been like in Europe since the breakout of Covid-19. She said they have been quarantined in Frankfurt for seven weeks now and they started to gradually reopen schools for a small number of students, only for juniors, and for seniors to take some of their exams. They are required to follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask at virtually all times, when they’re not in school.
She has big dreams and I really enjoyed reading her answers to my questions. Follow along and I’m sure you’ll feel the same!

I’m one of the proud grandparents, and I’m so impressed with this young woman and also have been so impressed with your senior photography. In a very short time, you captured her spirit–smile, energy, drive, ambition. And all of this was on a day of ‘difficult’ weather.
Thank you for your work.
Thank you so much Bob! Yes, we ran into some dicey weather that day but made the most of it! As you know, this session couldn’t be re-scheduled with the family’s tight travel schedule. Claire is so beautiful inside and out. I can see why you are a proud grandparent!
