A few more days of the Stay Home Orders and we’ll be starting to get our lives back to normal, for most of us that is. The seniors graduating this year will never get back the last few months of their time in high school and college. The timing of the global pandemic of Covid-19 has robbed them of many great events, ceremonies and memories. And yet, so many of the seniors I interviewed during the time we’ve been quarantined at home have surprised me with their great attitude. It is in that spirit that I am sharing the “Celebrating the Seniors” blog series. This small gesture of featuring them on my blog is the least I can do to bring some happiness their way during this time when they should be celebrating all they’ve accomplished the last four years.

Shelby is the next to be featured here on my blog. She is a senior at Oconomowoc High School. When I asked her what she thought when the quarantine was announced she said that she thought about how it would be the last time she would be seeing lots of her peers and teachers. She added,

“It was really hard to know that and not be able to say goodbye or get closure.”

I can imagine how hard that was. Shelby had great foresight guessing what was to come! At that time we didn’t even know that schools would be closed for the rest of the year. Read on to get to know Shelby a bit more. She’s a bright young lady who is destined for success. Don’t forget to comment below and wish her a happy rest of her senior year while you’re at it. I’m sure she’d love to read it!

What do you like to do for fun?  I like to read, do puzzles, watch TV shows, and play Scrabble.

What is your proudest momentMy proudest moment was when I passed the AP physics exam! I worked so hard in that class because I really struggled with it and it felt so good to see the hard work pay off and get the satisfaction of doing a good job.

Post graduation plans?  After graduation, I plan to attend the University of Minnesota Twin Cities to study mathematics. My dream job is to be a Physician Assistant.

What is your favorite class in school?  Calculus 3. Wile taking it I found it to be very hard and kind of boring, but looking back on it I am proud of myself for how successful I was and proud that I challenged myself the way I did. It might not have been “fun” but I think that class really helped me discover what I like and what I’m good at.

What have you learned about yourself during quarantine?  That I enjoy having lots of time for myself. I enjoy relaxing and the crazy fast-paced, nonstop lifestyle isn’t the best fit for me.

What is the best part about quarantine?  Getting caught up on my sleep! I love being able to sleep like 10 hours every night.

What is the worst part about quarantineThe “not knowing.” Not knowing when it’s going to end. Not knowing what the future will look like. Not knowing if I will get to have a normal college experience, etc.
