Fall is a busy time for photographers! People want to take their annual fall family portrait and the fall colors create a beautiful backdrop for them. Read my post about what you should wear for your fall family portraits here. By taking your photo in the fall, there’s time to order your holiday cards and get some new wall art up in your home in the process!
Part of my Julie Collins Photography process is helping my families choose a meaningful session location for their portraits. Many families opt to have their portraits outdoors at their homes as a result. What’s more meaningful than that?
However, sometimes families want to have their photos taken in a public space, and in those cases, I am happy to offer support through our session planning with suggestions. I also have a special locations link I oftentimes send with examples of portraits I’ve taken in many area locations to help you visualize your photo session there.
That client-only link is available once you book your portrait session with me, BUT I am happy to share the top 5 client favorite fall family portrait locations in Lake Country (and Milwaukee Metro area) with you today!

Top 5 Fall Family Photo Spots
These are the top 5 client fall family photo locations. Which one would you choose?
Retzer Nature Center – Waukesha, WI
The Retzer Nature Center is beautiful all year round, but it really shines in the fall! With the gorgeous fall colors, trails, bridges, and signature pine trees, this is a fun spot for your family photos. Bonus, the kids can check out the nature center after photos are done.

Hoyt Park – Wauwatosa, WI
This park offers a lovely bridge over the Menomonee River along with trails winding through the woods for lots of great photo opportunities. The bridge is a popular spot but we can find some beautiful color for your family right off the trail. I know some great locations!

Dousman Stagecoach – Brookfield, WI
Yes, this location is in Brookfield! The Dousman Stagecoach offers a unique historical background with the museum and old cannons on the property. You can’t miss the giant oak tree on the property and with the fall foliage, we can capture a beautiful photo of your family!

Fowler Park – Oconomowoc, WI
This location is definitely a fan favorite nestled on Fowler Lake. We have lots of options for lake, city or nature backgrounds. If you think you want photos here,I have a few spots to suggest that you might not expect!

Lapham Peak – Delafield, WI
If you’re dreaming of fall colors, this is a great spot for your family portraits! Lapham Peak, of course, has lots of trails and a forest full of trees with great photo opportunities. There are lovely meadow backdrops to choose from as well. If your family loves spending time here, that makes it even better.

Your Fall Family Portrait Photographer
One of my favorite things about being your family photographer is being able to take my clients’ portraits year after year and watch as their families grow! It’s amazing when I get that call that your family is expecting a new little one but just as thrilling is seeing how your children grow up each year. If you’re interested in becoming one of my families, let’s set up a time to chat! I’d love to see if we’re a good fit.
